The Avery Vest is a light, open, and fluffy vest. The vest is worked from the top down with a ribbed edge at the bottom and I-cord along the edges. The vest is made without buttonholes. It has an oversized fit and can therefore be worn over a sweatshirt or hoodie. If you do not want the oversized look, you can choose to go down a size.
Pattern overview
The vest is worked from the top down. First, the back piece is made, and then stitches are picked up for the shoulders, which are worked separately, before the back and front pieces are joined, and the rest of the vest is worked back and forth. A ribbed edge is made at the bottom of the vest. Finally, I-cord edges are made around the armholes and on the "button band," which is without buttons.
Size Guide
This vest can be made in sizes a (b) c (d) e (f) g which correspond to bust measurements of 75-84 (84-94) 94-103 (103-113) 113-122 (122-130) 130-140 cm.
To find your bust measurement, use a measuring tape to measure the widest part of your bust. If your chest area is not the widest part of your upper body, measure the widest part of your upper body instead and use that as your “bust” measurement. The vest has a positive ease of about 10-20 cm larger than your chest measurement and gradually decreases as the size increases.
Vest Measurements
Circumference: 96 (104) 113 (122) 133 (139) 148 cm
Length: 52 (53) 55 (57) 59 (61) 63 cm (measured at the center back without measuring the neckline)
Yarn
The vest is made in 2 strands of Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk (25 g = 140 meters). For size a (b) c (d) e (f) g, you will need 150 (150) 175 (175) 200 (200) 225 grams, corresponding to 6 (6) 7 (7) 8 (8) 9 skeins
As the vest is worked in 2 strands, 2 skeins are used at a time. If you need an odd number of skeins, you can choose to buy an extra skein so that you can always use 2 skeins simultaneously and do not have to use 2 strands from the same skein at the end.
Recommended Needles
Circular needles 7 mm, 80 cm for stockinette stitch.
Circular needles 6 mm, 80 cm for I-cord and the ribbing.
Optional, double-pointed needles 6 mm for I-cord (you can choose whether to use double-pointed needles or circular needles).
Knitting gauge
The vest has a gauge of 10x10 cm on 13 stitches x 16 rows on a 7 mm needle in stockinette stitch (k on the front side, p on the back side).
Remember to make a gauge swatch before you start knitting to find the right needle size to achieve the gauge. The gauge is measured after washing.
