The Violavest is a light, open vest made in 1 strand of Drops Flora and 1 strand of Drops Kid-silk.
The vest is made in a double broken rib stitch with beautiful increases and a twisted rib edge by the armholes as well as along the front.
Pattern overview
The vest is made from the top down. You will start out by creating the back piece after which you will pick up stitches for the shoulders. They are worked separately. Then, you will be connecting the back piece and the two front pieces and work the rest of the vest back and forth. In the bottom of the vest you will add a twisted rib edge like the ones you will be adding to the armholes and the front. On the button band you will make 4 button holes.
Size guide
This vest can be made in the sizes a (b) c (d) e which correspond to bust measurements of 80-90 (90-102) 102-115 (115-127) 127-132 cm.
To find your bust measurement, use a measuring tape to measure around the widest part of your bust. If your chest area is not the widest part of your upper body, measure the widest part of your upper body instead and use that as your “bust” measurement.
The vest has a positive ease of approximately 0-18 cm larger than your bust measurement.
Vest measurements
Circumference: 98 (106) 115 (127) 132 cm
Length: 52 (53) 55 (56) 58 cm
Yarn
The vest is made in 1 strand of Drops Flora (50 gram = 210 meters) and 1 strand of Drops Kid-silk (25 grams = 210 meters). For the sizes a (b) c (d) e, you will need 150 (150) 150 (200) 200 grams of Drops Flora, corresponding to 3 (3) 3 (4) 4 skeins and 75 (75) 75 (100) 100 grams of Drops Kid-silk corresponding to 3 (3) 3 (4) 4 skeins.
Knitting gauge
The vest has a gauge of 10x10 cm on 19 sts x 27 rows on 3,5 mm needles in a double broken rib stitch (k on the front side and k 2, p 2 on the back side).
Remember to make a gauge swatch before you start knitting to find the right needle size to achieve the gauge. Remember to also wash and block your swatch before you measure your gauge, as the double broken rib stitch widens after a wash.
Recommended needles
Circular needles 3,5 mm, 80 cm (optionally also a 60 cm one) for the double broken rib stitch.
Circular needles 3 mm, 60, 80 and, 100 or 120 cm for the twisted ribbing.
